Engineering with intention.

ARTEZ Adviesbureau VBA is a sustainable engineering consultancy based in Aruba — translating complex problems into reliable, well-designed systems through deliberate process and technical care.

Reliability is not a feeling. It is the residue of process — the visible result of decisions made deliberately, documented carefully, and proven in the field.
§ 01 — Position

We build advisory engagements around a transparent engineering method. Every recommendation is traceable to its assumptions; every assumption is open to challenge. The work is technical, but the obligation is human: the systems we help design serve people who will use them long after we leave the room.

The engineering
process, exposed.

A five-phase methodology applied to every engagement — from a brief on a napkin to the handover of validated, documented systems. Each phase has clear inputs, deliverables, and exit criteria. Below is the full pass.

P-01

Discovery Listen · Observe · Document

We start by mapping the territory before drawing the map. Stakeholders, constraints, prior work, regulatory frame, site conditions, stated goals — and the unstated ones. The brief is recovered from the environment, not assumed from the request.

  • Stakeholder interviews
  • Site & system audit
  • Constraint inventory
  • Brief consolidation

P-02

Analysis Decompose · Quantify · Risk-rank

The system is decomposed into its load paths, energy flows, and failure modes. We quantify what can be quantified, qualify what cannot, and surface the trade-offs that will shape design decisions downstream.

  • First-principles modeling
  • Load & flow analysis
  • Failure-mode review
  • Trade-off matrix

Design Synthesize · Specify · Iterate

Constraints become a design space. Inside that space, candidate solutions are sketched, weighed, and refined. We commit only when the chosen path can be defended on its merits — and revised when better evidence arrives.

  • Concept generation
  • Comparative evaluation
  • Detailed specification
  • Peer review

P-04

Validation Test · Verify · Document

A design is a hypothesis. Validation is the controlled confrontation of that hypothesis with reality — through calculation, modelling, inspection, and where appropriate, prototype. We don't ship beliefs.

  • Calculation review
  • Simulation & modelling
  • Field verification
  • Compliance check

P-05

Delivery Hand-over · Train · Support

The final phase is custodial. Documentation is finalized, knowledge is transferred to the team that will live with the system, and a support window keeps us reachable while the design beds in. Then we step back — by design.

  • As-built documentation
  • Training & transfer
  • Post-implementation review
  • Support window

§ 03 — Capabilities

Where we work, in practice.

C-01

Process Engineering & Plant Design

Heat & mass balance, equipment sizing, P&IDs and process data sheets for chemical, food and pharmaceutical installations. Greenfield, brownfield and modification programmes — taken from concept through detailed engineering.

C-02

Commissioning & Troubleshooting

On-plant support during start-up and after. Measurement, performance testing, root-cause analysis, and the design changes that close out persistent issues — on spray dryers, evaporators, pumps and utility systems.

C-03

3D Scanning & BIM Engineering

Existing-installation capture with Matterport and Leica BLK 360 for clash-free retrofits, modification work and as-built documentation that survives the project it was made for.

C-04

Feasibility & Concept Studies

Early-stage analysis to tell you whether an idea deserves the investment of full design — or what would have to change for it to. Costing, sizing, regulatory framing, and a defensible go / no-go.

C-05

Sustainability & Environmental Engineering

Lower-impact design — energy, water, waste and lifecycle considerations folded into decisions before they become irreversible. A practice rooted in sustainable-energy training and environmental policy advisory.

Public-Sector & Regulatory Advisory

Aruban regulatory landscape — ROP / ROPV spatial planning, Dutch and EU references, ISO and HAZOP frameworks. Bridging technical proposals to ministerial review and infrastructure programmes.

§ 04 — Principles

Three commitments, in writing.

P · 01

Reliability before novelty.

We default to known-good. Innovation is a tool we reach for when the known-good cannot meet the brief — not a deliverable in itself. The systems we leave behind have to work on a Tuesday morning.

P · 02

Sustainability as a constraint.

Environmental and social impact are line items in every brief, not appendices. Where there is a meaningful trade-off we put it on the table — and we recommend the harder, longer-lived option.

P · 03

Documentation is the deliverable.

A solution that cannot be explained, reviewed and handed over is not finished. Every engagement closes with a record clear enough that the next engineer — ours or yours — can pick up where we left off.
